Chelation Therapy
(Pronunciation: Key-lay-tion)
What is chelation? Chelation therapy is the administration of EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid) through a small needle in an arm vein. EDTA is a substance that helps remove heavy metal ions from the body. Toxic heavy metals, which increase the free radical damage associated with aging, are bonded with EDTA and removed from the body. Chelation is usually a series of 20 to 50 infusions with each treatment taking 2 ½ to 3 hours.
How can Chelation help you? Chelation therapy helps to decrease free radicals which are associated with atherosclerosis and hardening of the arteries, hypertension, vascular problems and other degenerative diseases. Test results show that blood flow improves following Chelation. Patients report improvement in symptoms associated with atherosclerosis or vascular disease such as lessening of chest pains, healing of wounds, and improvement in claudication, or leg cramps due to exertion. Although Chelation can help to reduce the free radical disease in the body, it is very important that proper nutrition and exercise programs are begun at the same time in order to maximize the benefits of Chelation therapy.
