Hyperthermia

Tumorcidal temperatures can be achieved with the use of a localized hyperthermia unit on some tumors. Microwaves can be focused on the proper anatomical location of the body and can create a tumorcidal environment. The killing effect covers a broad field and can be used when conventional radiation is not recommended. Often the combination of hyperthermia and radiation therapy is used to achieve rapid control of tumors that may be considered untreatable by conventional standards. The patient can be treated with microwave hyperthermia without the use of general anesthesia and insurance may cover the treatment cost. Alternative cancer physicians at Avatar Cancer Center work in conjunction with oncologists and radiation oncologists to determine if microwave hyperthermia is appropriate therapy for the cancer patient.
